We have been loving India now for 6 days traveling 1,964 km so far. New Delhi – Varanasi – Agra – Jaipur – Pushkar. Each place has its own magic and charm and SUPER S-L-O-W internet.
To continue with our “experiences of India” we had a major train delay. We were to take the overnight train from Varanasi – Agra departing at 10pm but delayed until 3:00am instead. With this news we checked into a hotel to get a few hours of solid sleep before the eight hour journey. Arrived at the train station at 2:30am to then wait another 6 hours! The train station is not on most tourist check list for reasons such as ; sadly many many homeless people, immense filth, the bathroom was so putrid Trent was stunned from being able to pee and the RATS. I am not kidding when I say we witnessed rats crawling over people sleeping on the floor, rats scurried under our chairs and they ventured in and out of the putrid bathrooms.
Here is the crazy thing… It is amazing how we as humans can adapt. The first rat freaked me out at 3:00am but by 7:00 am and only a 2 feet away from me I was looking at them reminding myself (they are cute like Ratatouille, the Disney movie) I was deliriously tired by this point maybe 🙂
True to Indian time the train did not leave until 8am and the trip took over 13 hours. As we stared out the window from the security of our first class cabin we saw many kids playing their beloved sport of cricket and we witnessed many places that you would see in the movie “Slum Dog Millionaire”. The garbage and poverty is the real deal in some places and then others the fields are green, lush and so beautiful.
Taj Mahal was pretty fascinating, this unbelievable structure is a symbol of absolute love, it was pretty cool to finally visit it. I could go on and on about the amazing things we have seen *cows *elephants *palaces *curry *traffic *masala chi tea *array of beautiful colors to name a few…India is way more thrilling than we expected, it is full of unlimited “experiences” if you are open to it 😉
